the past couple of hours. u.s. marshals came to the complex to make an arrest on monday night. they had an altercation with the suspect who then barricaded himself inside the apartment down the hill here. he was armed but did not have any hostages. prince george's county police, u.s. marshals were trying to negotiate with him for the past couple of hours. sources out here on the scene telling us he may have been involved in a recent carjackings and that is why he was arrested now, we plan to speak with prince george's county police here in just a second, get additional information. as soon as we do, we'll pass that information along. live in adelphi, maryland, melissa mollet. >>> police are on the hunt for suspects who broke into a prince george's county home and shot the homeowner. four men broke into that house in the 9100 block of lough gren house. the suspects shot him in the back. he's currently in the hospital with injuries. >>> it's 6:04. the newtown connecticut community will attempt to return to a sense of normalcy today. classes resume today at all newtown schools except sandy

as a joint u.s. afghan special team went in to save the life of dr. dilip joseph, an american doctor who was kidnapped two days before with two members of his afghan staff. the staff was released earlier when a small ransom was made but the taliban was asking for $100,000 for dr. joseph's release. general john allen felt that his life was in imminent danger and then called for the rescue mission as special operations team lured the taliban in, saying they would pay the ransom. the taliban came. instead, they were met by this team who killed at least six taliban insurgents. unfortunately, this u.s. navy s.e.a.l. also lost his life. his identity has not yet been released but he is being labeled a hero by the top brass in washington, including secretary of defense leon panetta and president barack obama who in a statement said he gave his life for his fellow americans and he and his teammates remind us once more of the selfless service that allows our nation to stay strong, safe and free. the american navy s.e.a.l. sacrifice has not been lost on dr. joseph's family who, in a statement relea

at 10:30 last night soon after prince george's county police and the u.s. marshal tried to issue and serve an arrest warrant. the suspect we're told -- let's take a look at some video we shot a short time ago. the suspect was armed inside of the avery park apartment, hold up inside an apartment. buff the neighbors we're told are safe. everyone in the immediate area was evacuated although we don't have an exact number. the suspect alone in the apartment. there was never a hostage situation. corporal maria mckinnie, she had some advice for neighbors, many of them who are waking up this morning who are talking to us, confused about what is happening here, trying to get out of the neighborhood. she has some advice for those residents. let's listen to what she had to say. >> the recommendation that we give at this time is to just continue on about their day, just let them know that the situation is under control and we have officers on the scene who are negotiate -- who are negotiating with the suspect. >> reporter: again you can see outside the avery apartments in adelphi. you can se

present within families than other groups in u.s. society, sow how can it approach immigrants rather than immigration policy may be decisive. there was a great commentary, a republican analyst who said, the republican party did really well on latino leaders but not on latino followers, and if you look at it in fact the two governors were latino in this country are both republican. who of the three senators who are latino are republicans. republicans have not down so badly on recruiting latino politicians. we could not have said ten years ago -- democrats were on their ware but the republicans have caught up. and it's catching up relative the support they have gotten from the latino electorate. so is there a difference between latino leaders and supporters. does this look forward the fact that the republican party is getting ahead of the game and will do better in the future, othe fact the republicans have made inroads and still unable to attract latino votes and the converse for democrats. can the feel it's a strong base of latino voters or should democrats be worried that in the long ter

learning his life was in imminent danger. now, u.s. official tells abc news that it appears that the militants were preparing to take joseph to neighboring pakistan. that's why general john allen, the top commander in afghanistan ordered the raid himself saying quote, today's mission exemplifies our unwavering commitment to defeating the taliban. dan, we didn't hear about this kidnapping when it happened on wednesday, because coalition officials were so worried about his safety that we were working to keep all of this under wraps. when you talk about the military in afghanistan, we sometimes forget that there are thousands of civilians in afghanistan, working as trainers, instructors, or in this case, as a doctor, this doctor was working in a remote base, trying to set up remote medical facilities. because he was doing training there. because he wasn't part of the military, oftentimes the civilians go there and they really put their lives literally on the front line because they just don't have the support and the firepower that the american military does. >> it is extraordi

in the u.s., 34% have one adl limitation. we looked at all the states and to apportion their of their people over age 60 and compared it to the national standard 34%. and so, obviously some states are going to have the low 34 percent and some will the way higher. if you look at the very dark space and the central part of the country, which includes kentucky, alabama, west virginia, those are the states that if you recruited -- include a limitation on adl, they have a very large population that falls into that category. the lightly colored states -- nevada,, roddick, minnesota, some of the others -- those states have basically a much healthier population over age 60. they have a much lower percentage of people over age 60 that have at least one limitation on their ability to continue independent living. if you wanted to move toward a full beneficiary equity, you would want to incorporate cost factors, and some of the key factors would be things like wages, food, the program provides meals to older people, office space, and so on. we did not complete the analysis but we h
